The ENVISION project has been featured by our project coordinator, Prof. Dr. Dr. Kai Zacharowski, in an interview on the European Commission’s CORDIS website under the ‘Results in Brief’ section. The interview highlights the success of the ENVISION project in tackling the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the onset of the pandemic, ICU staff were faced with a new and highly contagious disease without a vaccine or proven treatment options. This put immense pressure on resources and placed medical staff at great risk.
In the interview, Prof. Zacharowski shares the key achievements and highlights of the ENVISION project, despite the numerous challenges faced along the way. The project’s impact extends beyond the current pandemic and can be applied to future infectious disease outbreaks and critical care scenarios, to improve patient care and increase the efficiency of ICU treatments.
“At our hospital in Frankfurt, my team and I were treating over 700 severely compromised COVID-19 patients in our ICU at one time. While we had experience in ventilating and providing other ICU treatments, we lacked proven treatment options for this complex disease. This made it incredibly difficult to always make decisions that were in the best interests of our patients,” says Prof. Zacharowski.
